I have to agree with you on this one.... I believe the reason Wizards took the time to make the troll a natural creature instead of a fey creature is because they are weak to fire. Even though a creature's creature type is determined by its body, not by its physical weakness
well, to be precise, trolls are not vulnerable to fire, so they are no more susceptible to fire than your average creature. fire does nothing more than temporarily suppress the trolls' awesome regenerative powers.

which, in theory.... the trolls should be fey because of their regeneration powers
