Detect Magic senses the presence of magic within 30 feet. You can use your action to see a faint aura around any visible creature or object in the area that bears magic, and you learn its school of magic, if any.
You can make one Arcana skill check with each casting of Detect Magic. The DCs are as follows:
Very easy - 5 (Identify single, main function of magic)
Easy - 10 (Identify one additional function of magic)
Medium - 15 (Identify all functions of magic)
Hard - 20 (Identify presence of curse)
Very hard - 25 (Identify all details of curse)
Nearly impossible - 30
This check cannot be made without proficiency in the Arcana skill.
